Now that we’re a full month deep into summer, I thought it was high time for a capsule wardrobe update.
For those of you who have been following along for the past couple of years, you know that I adopted capsule wardrobing as my go-to approach managing my once-overflowing closet. With each year and updated capsule, I’ve learned a few new lessons.
This year’s lesson: buy more summer-ready, work-appropriate pieces.
In one of my earlier posts about capsule wardrobing, I admitted that my capsule was a total fail in regard to having adequate office-appropriate pieces. I wrote:
“I built most of my spring/summer capsule wardrobe for weekend wear….Although I spend most of my time at the office, many items in my collection were barely work-appropriate.”
Full disclosure: Standard office attire at my job falls somewhere just south of business casual. Occasionally, however, I have meetings outside of the office, so I still have to keep things a bit buttoned up. To keep my capsule a tightly edited collection, I knew I’d have to pick up some versatile new pieces that worked for both work and play.
I’m happy to report I think I’ve finally gotten a handle on finding ways to combine fun and functional in the new pieces I’ve incorporated into my summer capsules. While these four pieces don’t represent the full extent of my capsule wardrobe (wouldn’t that be something if it did?), I have a feeling these will be the pieces I’ll keep reaching for whether for work or the weekend.
- The pale blue textured sleeveless button-down (A) that works with both with a pair of chinos and a wedge or white shorts and sandals.
- The royal blue patterned drawstring shirtdress (B) that I could dress up or dress down.
- The white eyelet t-shirt (C) that works great with a pencil skirt or pair of natural-colored linen drawstring pants.
- The sleeveless teal patterned blouse (D) that pairs beautifully with a pair of slacks or a navy blue skort.
And yes. I like wearing blue a lot.
