Loving Lavender Season

It was the kind of weekend I dream about all year. Warm air, perfect blue skies, and a quick road trip to one of my favorite parts of Washington state? Yes, please!

Every year in July, the lavender fields on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula burst into full, round bushes of pale and potent purples. It’s lavender season, y’all, and that meant it was time for me to head out to the annual Sequim and Washington Lavender Festivals.

Sequim (pronounced skwim) is a small town about two and a half hours away from Seattle, accessible by a serene ferry ride followed by an hour’s drive along evergreen-lined roads with luminous views of the Olympic mountain range. After boarding an early ferry to beat the crowds, I was soon surrounded by gorgeous fields of lavender for perusing and picking and, of course, gift shops for purchasing all the lavender and lavender-themed merch I could possibly want. Bliss.

One of my favorite parts of the day was the time I spent at the beautiful and stately George Washington Inn and the Washington Lavender Farm just outside of Sequim. The site offers panoramic views of the Strait of Juan de Fuca between the United States and Canada. I strolled through a small field of u-pick lavender, learned how to cook with lavender, and sampled the most delicious blueberry lemon lavender scones. Bonus: savoring a single scoop of blueberry lavender ice cream that was simply divine.

Best. Day. Ever.
