For the Record is a look back at the week that was: I share my current obsessions, weekend plans, and other snapshots from a life in progress.
When your week is way too long and you’ve never been so happy to see Friday arrive: that’s pretty much where I stand right now. Even though I started the year with some big goals and ambitions, I’m beginning to feel the motivation and energy draining a bit. It’s so easy to get caught up in the busyness of everyday life that your focus on the things that really matter becomes, well, a bit blurry. So it’s no secret that many of the things resonating with me right now include redefining goals and putting my dreams front and center. There’s a little bit of that (and other things too), as I put virtual pen to paper, for the record:
Sleepy Hollow is back!
I discovered the FOX genre series Sleepy Hollow late last summer and proceeded to binge-watch the first two seasons just in time for the season 3 premiere in October. I have an odd relationship with the show. It’s obvious the writing quality has fallen off since the first season, but I find the leads Nicole Beharie and Tom Mison so compelling to watch in their scenes. Come what may, I’ll continue to support these two fine working Actors (with a capital “A”) until the very end. Check out the mid-season premiere tonight on FOX at 8 pm ET/PT or tomorrow morning on Hulu.
Redefining success and personal power
Whether you’re looking for a new job or tackling some big challenges this year, confidence is key. I’m excited to read Harvard psychologist Amy Cuddy’s Presence: Bringing Your Boldest Self to Your Biggest Challenges as it tackles redefining the meaning of success and tapping into the best of what makes you you. Buy the book on Amazon or waitlist yourself at your local library.
A “Dream” role for Amber Riley
I’m not often invested in the personal success of celebrities but I fell in love with singer-actress Amber Riley, one of the stars of FOX’s canceled Glee. The woman can SING. So when I heard she’d be heading to London’s West End this fall to star as Effie White in a production of the musical Dreamgirls, I was over the moon. Take a listen as Amber performs one of that musical’s iconic numbers “And I Am Telling You I’m Not Going,” from season 1 of the TV show. Chills. Bow down.
My dream house
For those of you who’ve been reading my posts for a while, I’ve made no secret of my ultimate goal to live in a tiny house. While I don’t think I’m quite ready for a house that’s smaller than 200 square feet, this 540-square foot small house on Sauvie Island just outside of Portland, Oregon is basically my dream house come to life.
So it’s SuperBowl weekend, right? Ever since I saw this recipe for Pigs in a Pretzel Blanket, courtesy of Buzzfeed’s buzzy food channel Tasty, I’ve been saving it for just this occasion. I’m thinking a honey mustard sauce for dipping should add just the right amount of sweetness to this savory treat.
On tap for the weekend
Super Bowl 50? Check. A new knitting project? I hope. Homework for my professional development class? Most definitely. But most important? Putting a plan in place so 2016 doesn’t get away from me. Have a happy weekend!
